About the Game

Fune Tarou is a fishing simulation sports game for the Super Famicom in which players assume the role of the young angler Tarou. Gameplay features realistic casting mechanics with varying difficulty levels for different fish types, ranging from small fish in beginner rivers to large bass and salmon in advanced mountain streams, as well as different seasons and times of day that affect bite rates and lure choice. Players progress by mastering techniques such as lure selection, line control, and timing the perfect cast to catch all seven master fish across multiple locations. The game includes save data functionality and a simple progression system rewarding successful catches with better equipment and unlocks. Characters are limited to the player character Tarou and the fish themselves, with no complex non-player characters. What makes it stand out is its faithful recreation of Japanese river and sea fishing for the SNES, offering an immersive, relaxed experience ideal for portable or single-player sessions without any competitive multiplayer.
