About the Game
Kakinoki Shougi is a traditional Japanese shogi (Japanese chess) game for the Super Famicom. Players compete on a 9x9 board using the standard shogi rules, moving pieces such as the king, gold generals, silver generals, rooks, bishops, knights, and lances. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king while promoting pieces upon reaching the last rank. It supports single-player versus the computer AI with adjustable difficulty and move prediction, or two-player matches. Unlike Western chess, shogi allows captured pieces to be dropped back onto the board, adding strategic depth. It stands out for its faithful representation of classic Japanese strategy and deep tactical options.
