About the Game

Math Blaster: Episode 1 is an edutainment space shooter on SNES where players control Blasternaut, a green alien astronaut with a blaster gun and jetpack. Spot, Blasternaut's robot friend, is kidnapped by the Trash Alien while repairing the ship's polytronic combustion regulator; Galactic Commander assigns the mission to locate and save Spot across multiple planets. Gameplay mixes real-time action with math minigames: solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division equations to identify targets and defeat Trash Alien forces in arena shooting levels, with vertical exploration in caves or ship sections. The game uses a 12-level difficulty system (easy problems on levels 1-3 up to division on 10-12), 4 chapters in the original, and single-player mode only, with the SNES port omitting the Number Recycler level from the PC version. It stands out as one of the earliest console edutainment titles blending arcade action with arithmetic practice for ages 6-12.
