Metamode

Metamode is an action-adventure RPG for Game Boy Color where players control a young child in a fantasy world of humans and monsters coexisting. Gameplay is overhead 2D Zelda-style exploration with grid-based movement; combat uses A/B buttons for attacks and special commands (S/M/L levels charged by holding). Menu allows transforming into 90 forms that change weapons/abilities, skill learning from defeated monsters, and town exploration for shops, warp, equipment, and puzzles. Story: protagonist becomes a Kools hero to stop Bob's sabotage after being recruited; faces brainwashed allies and bosses in dungeons. Standout characters: Eddy/Ami (protagonist), Knack, Yang, Bob. Metamode robot grants shape-shifting to subdue monsters non-lethally. Single-player with save anytime; two-player co-op for some areas.
