About the Game
Olympic Hockey '98 is a sports ice hockey game for Nintendo 64 featuring 20 national teams from the 1998 Winter Olympics, including Austria, Belarus, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. Gameplay is arcade-style based on the Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey engine with power saves (goaltender becomes a brick wall), power shots, power checks, high-scoring games, and over-the-top fights. Single-player and multiplayer modes are available. The game is a reskin of Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey '98 with Olympic-themed rosters and a bigger Olympic-sized rink. It stands out as the first official hockey game tied to the Nagano Winter Olympics, though it shares its core gameplay mechanics with the prior title.
