About the Game

Poker Mahjong is a card-based mahjong simulation on the NES/Famicom. Players use a deck of 52 playing cards (A-9 in 4 suits) to form hands consisting of 4 sets (Pongs, Kongs, or Chows) and a pair (Eyes). Gameplay involves drawing, discarding, and claiming melds from opponents' discards. It features 3 modes: Demonstrate (hand examples), Exhibition (vs. CPU with point-based scoring), and Tournament (vs. girl characters with gauntlet structure, passwords, and highest-card initiative). Characters include bikini-clad female opponents shown on the title screen. What makes it stand out is the fusion of mahjong meld rules with poker-style card mechanics and attractive graphics.
