About the Game

Popeye is a classic arcade platformer released by Nintendo in 1982. As Popeye, the player controls the sailor and must collect a set number of items dropped by Olive Oyl—such as 24 hearts, 16 musical notes, or 24 letters spelling HELP—across three screens per cycle while dodging Brutus and the Sea Hag. No jump button is present; Popeye uses a punch mechanic to destroy bottles and skulls, and after eating the level's spinach he becomes briefly invincible to defeat Brutus permanently. The game supports single-player and multiplayer modes with bonus elements like knocking buckets from punching bags to stun enemies. It stands out for its early 1980s arcade innovation in physics-based enemy pursuit and colorful cartoon visuals based on the E.C. Segar comic strip.
