Road Rash

Road Rash is a 1991 racing and vehicular combat game where you control a motorcycle racer competing in illegal races across California to advance through five levels by finishing in the top four in five races per level. Gameplay involves braking, accelerating, and engaging in unarmed or armed combat with punches, backhands, kicks, and pick-up weapons like clubs; players can carry and cycle multiple weapons. Characters include a diverse cast of rival racers and antagonists with individual names and backstories such as Biff, Axle, Bolo, Helmut, Ikira, Lucky Luc, Nina, Natasha, Rhonda, and others from the series. What makes it stand out is the California setting with realistic digitized sprites, bike customization and upgrades, a bounty system where failing to pay fines or repairs requires becoming a repo man or snitch to capture wanted opponents, and intense two-player modes including split-screen and Mano a Mano. The game blends high-speed vehicular combat with intense fistfights and upgrades in a chaotic, violent style.
