About the Game

Shinobi for Game Gear is a 2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash platformer action game where the player controls Joe Musashi, the Red Ninja, on a mission to rescue four kidnapped allies held captive in four distinct stages. Gameplay includes precise platforming, jumping, running, and combat with shuriken, sword, and special ninjutsu moves. After clearing stages, the player can switch to other color-coded ninjas (each with unique weapons, abilities, and ninjutsu spells) for varied gameplay, similar to a Mega Man progression system. The story involves battling enemies to free the captured comrades and destroy the City of Fear in the final stage. What makes it stand out is the character-switching mechanic allowing control of multiple ninjas with different specialties, high-quality visuals, music by Yuzo Koshiro, and smooth controls on the portable Game Gear hardware.
