Tombs & Treasure is an adventure-RPG hybrid for the NES. You play as a young brown-haired male protagonist (or random name) and his green-haired girlfriend, the daughter of Professor Imes, alongside the guide José. Professor Imes led an expedition to the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá in search of the Sun Key, a legendary artifact; his team mysteriously disappeared, leaving only José to send a message. Players explore temples in top-down overworld and first-person dungeon views, solving puzzles like playing musical instruments or moving heavy objects. Turn-based combat uses experience points to level up against unique enemies in fixed locations. The game stands out for its detailed story expansion, party-based RPG mechanics, and combination of point-and-click interface with light role-playing elements not present in the original 1986 PC version by Falcom.
