About the Game

Chuuka Taisen is a horizontally scrolling shooter in which the player controls the sage Michael Chen, who rides a cloud and shoots balls of energy at flying enemies inspired by Chinese mythology and culture. Gameplay includes collecting power-ups to boost firepower, speed, and special abilities, purchasing bomb-type weapons at stage shops, and battling mini-bosses followed by larger bosses. The story follows Michael Chen's mission to defeat evil forces in ancient China, with unique enemies such as flying noodle bowls, Buddha statues, dragon heads, and more. It stands out for its whimsical, colorful boss designs, quirky shopkeepers, and the Famicom version's extra and hidden stages. The game offers single-player action with checkpoint restarts.
