Crack Down

Crack Down is a run-and-gun action shooter for the Sega Genesis port of the 1989 Sega arcade game. Gameplay is top-down, where players control Ben Breaker or Andy Attacker (or both in co-op) to navigate timed levels planting bombs on red 'X' markers while shooting regenerating robot guards with a machine gun, cannon (swappable), and smart bombs that clear the screen. There is no health bar—each hit loses a life—and obstacles include pits, wires, and crumbling floors; escape before the level timer expires for bonus points. The story follows the two agents stopping mad scientist Mr. X (Mr. K on Genesis) from world domination. It stands out for its simple yet tense core loop, split-screen multiplayer, overhead map view, and quick bomb-planting action in a top-down shooter format similar to Gauntlet.
