About the Game

Hajimari no Mori is a text-based adventure game where you control a young boy who takes a train to spend the summer with his grandfather in the rural Kuzunoki Village. He meets a mysterious girl named Komurasaki in the forest and sets off on an adventure to find her again, interacting with villagers including former bullies. The story explores themes of kindness, friendship, and environmental preservation as the boy helps a forest heal after deforestation. Gameplay involves choosing commands via a menu to advance the narrative, with several text-based minigames. It was released exclusively in Japan on the Super Famicom in 1999, later ported to the Game Boy Color as an unreleased prototype discovered in leaks. What makes it stand out is its thoughtful message about empathy and nature in a simple summer story.
