About the Game

Hebereke is a 2D action-adventure platformer on the NES/Famicom where players control the penguin Hebe (Bop-Louie in the English/Ufouria version) through a surreal extra-dimensional world to reunite with their lost friends. Gameplay involves a hub-and-spoke world map for exploration, switching between four characters with unique abilities—Hebe's neck extension and suction-cup climbing, O-Chan's swimming and ice-walking, Sukezaemon's drifting, and Jennifer's underwater movement—and using Popoons (thrown balloons from defeated enemies) to defeat bosses. Story follows the group falling through a crater into an alien world with time-space distortions; players find the amnesia-stricken friends, fight them to regain memories, and collect three keys from guardians to reach the final boss Unyohn (Unyoon). Characters include Hebe (fastest, speaks 'pyō'), O-Chan (laughing, swims), Sukezaemon (polite ghost), Jennifer (underwater expert), and minor like Bobodori (ferry). It stands out for its quirky surreal setting, character-driven story, and innovative NES character-swapping mechanics despite its cult rarity and PAL release.
