About the Game
Ikki is a top-down shooter on the NES/Famicom where Gonbe, a poor farmer, leads a revolt against his feudal overlord in feudal Japan. Gameplay involves running through levels, collecting eight gold coins, throwing homing sickles to enemies, and using items like bamboo spears or daikon radish for boosts. In single-player, you fight ninjas, bombers, and wild boars; multiplayer adds Tago. The story centers on Gonbe's rebellion. Characters are the player Gonbe and optional Tago. It stands out as one of the first kusoge (bad games) for its infamously hard difficulty and chaotic design, despite simple core mechanics.
