About the Game
Lufia & the Fortress of Doom is a role-playing game for the Sega Mega Drive where the player leads a party of four heroes on a quest to stop the Sinistrals from destroying the world. Gameplay features turn-based dungeon crawling and random battles across a large overworld map, with the player naming the main Hero character and controlling Lufia (a childhood friend), Aguro, and Jerin (a girl). The story begins with the original heroes Guy, Maxim, Selan, and Artea defeating the Sinistrals, only for Maxim and Selan to die; 100 years later, the Sinistrals return, and the player's party must climb the floating Fortress of Doom. The game stands out for its emotional plot with a major twist revealing Lufia as Erim (a Sinistral reincarnated), deep character development, and classic JRPG elements like leveling up and item management. Battles have unique turn-order mechanics influenced by stats, making it a memorable adventure full of fellowship and sacrifice. Released as a North American version of the 1993 Japanese title Estpolis Denki by Neverland and Taito.
