About the Game
Holy Diver (救世主) is a platform game for NES/Famicom. You play as Randy (named after Ronnie James Dio), Zakk (named after Zakk Wylde), and Ozzy (named after Ozzy Osbourne) escaping a magic kingdom threatened by the Black Slayer (Demon King). Gameplay involves jumping, platforming through forests, castles, and caverns while acquiring magic spells like Twin Fire and Blizzard to defeat enemies and collect the Five Crimson Emblem Seals. Story is a dark fantasy about heroes training to restore light against an evil empire. It stands out for extreme difficulty (one of the hardest NES games), rock music references in names and themes, and mechanics similar to Getsu Fūma Den and Contra.
