Sensha Senryaku - Sabaku no Kitsune

Sensha Senryaku - Sabaku no Kitsune is a 1988 turn-based strategy game for the Famicom, also known as Desert Commander in North America. Players command Allied forces under Generals George S. Patton and Bernard Montgomery or the Axis forces led by Erwin Rommel in the North African Campaign of WWII, with five increasingly difficult single-player scenarios and a two-player versus mode. Gameplay involves deploying nine different units and headquarters, maneuvering them on maps to engage in turn-based battles where factors like positioning and terrain determine outcomes, with the goal of occupying the enemy headquarters or destroying all opposing forces. What makes it stand out is its historical WWII setting, intuitive unit management, and strategic depth reminiscent of classic board games like Stratego, featuring memorable tank and vehicle units in a desert environment.
