Shining Force II

Shining Force II is a tactical role-playing game for the Sega Mega Drive where you lead the Shining Force as Bowie, a young warrior who joins a group of adventurers to stop the theft of the Jewels of Light and Evil by the thief Slade, which resurrects the demon king Zeon. Gameplay features free-roaming exploration across the world, party management with class changes for promoted characters, and turn-based battles where you direct up to 10 units to move, attack, cast spells, or use items, with features like counter-attacks and optional promotions. The story involves the group recruiting heroes like the elf priestess Sarah, the centaur warrior Chester, the dwarven warrior Jaha, and the wizard Gerhalt as they journey to restore balance to the world. What stands out are the deep character backstories and personalities, unique skill systems, and seamless integration of exploration and strategy without chapter restrictions, making it one of the most polished SRPGs on the Genesis.
