About the Game
Sonic Blast is a 1996 2D side-scrolling platform game on Game Gear where the player controls Sonic the Hedgehog or Knuckles the Echidna in 15 levels to gather scattered Chaos Emerald shards and stop Dr. Robotnik (also known as Dr. Eggman) from fortifying his base in the Silver Castle Zone. Gameplay features classic Sonic mechanics including spin attacks, double jump for Sonic, and basic platforming and speed running; levels are explored for Emerald fragments to power up abilities. The story follows Sonic and Knuckles teaming up to destroy the robot's stronghold after his laser shatters a Chaos Emerald into five pieces. It stands out as the final Sonic title for the Game Gear with pre-rendered graphics resembling Donkey Kong Country but with some technical issues.
