About the Game
In Sonic Spinball for Game Gear, players control Sonic the Hedgehog as the ball on four pinball-style levels inside the Veg-O-Fortress, a giant machine powered by volcanoes and Chaos Emeralds. Use flippers to launch Sonic upward and across the table while he jumps, ducks, crouches, and performs a Super Spin Dash when not curled up. Collect all Chaos Emeralds in each level to unlock and defeat the boss at the top; bonus rounds let you play regular pinball with three balls and tilt shakes to boost score. Multiple players can take turns. The story follows Sonic and Tails infiltrating the fortress, freeing animals from Robotnik's robot slaves, and destroying his escape ship as the base erupts. What makes it stand out is the innovative hybrid of classic Sonic platforming and pinball mechanics, unique status strip for hints, and Sonic serving as the rolling ball itself.
