Star Trek: Tactical Assault is a real-time tactics game where players command starships and crews in space combat. The gameplay involves navigating the ship, managing shields, weapons, and navigation systems, with emergency power for special abilities like cloaking or overcharging. Missions require utilizing all three systems to defeat enemies in 2D space battles. The story features two single-player campaigns: one as a Federation officer starting as a lieutenant commander in 2284, and another as a Klingon after the Khitomer Massacre in 2346. Players upgrade the bridge crew with points earned from successful missions to improve ship capabilities like damage control and maneuverability. What makes it stand out is its deep integration of Star Trek elements into ship combat, including the use of phasers and photon torpedoes, with the DS stylus enabling precise control of functions like steering and energy management.
