Taikou Risshiden

Taikou Risshiden is a turn-based strategy RPG set in the Sengoku period of Japan. Players assume the role of Kinoshita Tōkichirō (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi), a low-ranking retainer, and rise through ranks by fulfilling story missions, improving stats, and completing optional activities. Core mechanics include career progression across professions like samurai or merchant, turn-based personal combat during duels or bandit encounters (with movement ranges indicated by white circles), and a card-based system for collecting character, skill, and title cards. The story follows historical events such as the Battle of Nagashino, where players interact with real figures like Nobunaga Oda and his retainer Hideyoshi. What stands out is its deep simulation of daimyo life with branching paths, mini-game elements for training and diplomacy, and high replayability through diverse goals like becoming the number one ninja or merchant.
