About the Game

Choplifter is a horizontally scrolling shooter developed by Dan Gorlin and published by Broderbund for the SG-1000. Players control a combat helicopter pilot tasked with rescuing hostages from enemy barracks in the territory of the evil Bungeling Empire. The goal is to collect and transport up to eight hostages to safety while dodging tanks, planes, and other enemies. Gameplay mechanics include flying left, right, or forward (to shoot tanks), protecting hostages from fire, and managing limited fuel in over-the-top missions. It stands out as a pioneering rescue-shooter genre title, introducing the iconic helicopter pilot gameplay loop of fetching and delivering prisoners under constant enemy attack.
