About the Game

Cosmo Genesis is a first-person space shooter on the Famicom/NES where you pilot a lone starfighter to defend the refugee transport ship CosmoStation Noah from the Molok Wardrivers, a fleet of intergalactic terrorists. You navigate a randomized 10x10 galactic grid, warping between sectors while battling enemy ships in intense cockpit-based combat. Collect upgrades for engines and weapons from planets and space stations, then head to an asteroid field or navigate a perilous black hole to escape if needed. Game modes include a single-player campaign with one-life mechanics and life-support warnings. Story follows survivors fleeing a dying sun on the Noah ship, protecting civilians as your bio-computer AI assists in targeting. What makes it stand out is the simple yet addictive grid-based navigation with charging warp mechanics and first-person immersion on the 8-bit hardware, creating tense defensive action reminiscent of early cockpit shooters. Characters include the unnamed pilot and AI ship computer; no named crew aboard the Noah beyond generic refugees. Gameplay centers on destroying fleets before they encircle the station while managing fuel and power, with destructible asteroids and black hole hazards adding challenge. Release year 1986, developed and published by ASCII for Famicom (US: Acclaim 1987).
