Platoon

Platoon is a run-and-gun action game set during the Vietnam War, where players take control of a soldier who finds their platoon abandoned in the jungle and must fight their way back to a waiting helicopter. Gameplay features four unique levels inspired by scenes from the 1986 Oliver Stone film, with varied mechanics such as side-scrolling platforming and combat in the jungle, first-person shooter sections, vehicle-based missions, and intense melee or ranged battles against enemies including snipers, gorillas, and traps. There are no traditional characters beyond the player character, but the game captures the film's themes of chaos and survival through brutal enemy encounters and environmental hazards like napalm strikes and booby traps. What makes it stand out is its innovative level design with changing gameplay styles that prevent repetition, drawing directly from the movie's iconic atmosphere while offering tough, authentic war-like action on the NES hardware.
