Guardic Gaiden

Guardic Gaiden (known as The Guardian Legend internationally) is a hybrid action-adventure and scrolling shooter for the NES/Famicom. You play as the Guardian, a transforming robot from humanoid explorer to spaceship, on a mission to destroy the alien world Naju before it reaches Earth by activating ten safety devices. Gameplay mixes top-down labyrinth exploration in Naju with dungeon shooting corridors full of enemies; use primary rapid-fire weapons and secondary power chips to buy upgrades. Blue and Red Landers act as NPCs, checkpoints, and password devices. The plot involves fighting alien tribes to enable self-destruction. It stands out for blending Zelda-style exploration, Metroid-style adventure, and 1942-style shooting in one package, with influential graphics and music.
