About the Game
Kickle Cubicle is a puzzle game developed by Irem for the NES/Famicom. The protagonist Kickle, a snowman-like character wearing red earmuffs, must free his frozen Fantasy Kingdom from the Wicked Wizard King by collecting red Dream Bags on single-screen frozen islands. Gameplay involves using Kickle's unlimited freezing breath to turn enemies into ice blocks that can be kicked to form walkways on water, create pillars, or smash foes; ice blocks thaw and slide until stopped by obstacles like springs or hammers. The game features four themed lands with 15-20 levels each, a boss at the end of each, and 30 harder special stages after completion. Story follows Kickle waking to find the kingdom iced over, with people trapped in Dream Bags. What makes it stand out is its thoughtful timing and strategy over reflexes, combined with quirky fantasy visuals and a mix of action and puzzle elements reminiscent of Adventures of Lolo and Pengo.
