About the Game
Power Athlete is a 2D fighting game featuring a unique RPG-like attribute progression system. The player controls Joe, an American martial artist from a small town who trains worldwide to become the ultimate Power Athlete. In single-player story mode, Joe travels the globe to defeat seven world-class fighting masters in any order, each granting unique special moves and power-ups for Joe's strength, speed, and endurance stats. The game supports multiplayer battles against AI opponents or other players. Key standout mechanics include a two-plane vertical fighting arena and only three on-screen buttons (punch, kick, jump) with button-combo special moves like palm blasts and aerial attacks. The game was released for the Super Famicom in Japan in November 1992.
