About the Game
Space Harrier is a fast-paced rail shooter where players control the jetpack-wearing hero Harrier from a third-person rear view on a continuous rail through surreal Fantasy Zone landscapes. The underarm-mounted laser cannon fires energy pulses straight ahead, requiring constant movement to dodge aerial enemies like jets and mechs or ground obstacles such as rocks and pillars while maintaining forward momentum without stopping or slowing. Eighteen stages feature escalating enemy waves with energy balls, fireballs, and missiles; completing all stages ends the game with only "The End" displayed and no story progression. Bonus stages allow switching to the dragon companion Uriah to smash obstacles for extra points. The 32X version delivers smoother scrolling and near-arcade frame rates compared to earlier ports.
