About the Game

Sword Maniac is a side-scrolling action-adventure game for the Super Famicom in which players control the swordsman Slash as he battles through a dystopian future. Set in 2097 Neo New York, Slash wields the legendary sword X-Kaliber to fight the criminal syndicate led by Raptor and his army of mutated Morph lieutenants. Story focuses on rescuing Alix, Slash's love interest and partner, from abduction while preventing the sword from falling into evil hands. Gameplay combines platforming, combat with sword slashes, thrusts, jumps and blocks, plus one-on-one boss fights modeled after versus fighting games. It stands out with intense boss battles against characters like Kane, Tattoo, Chainsaw, Dr. Blast, Raptor, and Spuke, plus an excellent soundtrack featuring Psykosonik tracks in the US version or Sakimoto/Matsuo in the Japanese original. Multiple game modes and a versus two-player mode add replayability in this classic SNES hack-and-slash title.
