Thexder

Thexder is a run-and-gun action game where players control a transforming robot in 16 side-scrolling maze levels filled with enemies and obstacles. It features two primary game modes: robot form for jumping and shooting with auto-targeting lasers, and jet fighter form for forward flying and shooting in the direction of motion. Power management is central, as the limited energy depletes from laser use and enemy contact, requiring collection of health items and careful weapon usage to survive and reach the facility power core. There is no traditional narrative or story characters. What makes it stand out is its innovative mecha transformation system and pioneering side-scrolling shooter design with addictive gameplay that influenced later run-and-gun titles like Contra.
