About the Game

Universal Soldier is a 2D action-platformer and run-and-gun game based on the 1992 Jean-Claude Van Damme film. The player controls a marine protagonist who blasts through stages filled with enemies. Core mechanics include a steerable laser beam fired by holding the shoot button (with upgrades for multi-shot, ricochet, and flame variants), a roll-bomb attack inspired by Metroid, and power-ups that expand the player's abilities. Story follows the film's plot with a protagonist battling rogue soldiers and a giant tank boss resembling Dolph Lundgren's character. Characters feature a customizable marine in a military setting. It stands out as a licensed rebrand of Turrican II: The Final Fight with platformer levels replacing some shooter stages, unique power-ups, and movie tie-in cutscenes.
