About the Game
Sword of Vermilion is an action RPG for the Sega Genesis featuring first-person exploration of overworld, towns, and dungeons combined with real-time side-scrolling battles against enemies and bosses. The unnamed Prince must collect eight Rings of Good to save the realm from the invading forces of King Tsarkon, who seeks to dominate through the evil rings. Gameplay shifts between top-down exploration, town interactions, and side-view combat where players wield a sword or magic spells and upgrade equipment in villages. The story centers on the Prince raised by knight Blade in the village of Wyclif, revealed to be Prince Erik's son, who sets out to avenge his father and unite the realm of Vermilion. It stands out for its ambitious multi-style gameplay in a 16-bit era, detailed sprites, and one of the last Genesis RPGs released with a 106-page hint book.
