Formation Z

Formation Z is a horizontally scrolling shooter where players control a transforming robot named Ixpel. It begins in robot mode with a gun, jumping to leap between ledges and avoid ground hazards, then transforms into a jet fighter by holding jump while moving upward for high-speed flight across skies and oceans. Jet mode consumes fuel, which is replenished by collecting power-ups on the ground, allowing traversal of large bodies of water impassable in robot form. Earth stages feature mountainous grasslands, Egyptian deserts, and oceans; the story involves battling alien invaders, with an early boss named STV defeated via Big-Bang attack before transitioning to outer space for final confrontation. It stands out for its innovative robot-to-jet transformation mechanic and two-arc structure mixing ground and aerial combat.
