About the Game
Mad City, known internationally as The Adventures of Bayou Billy, is a side-scrolling action-adventure beat-'em-up game set in the Louisiana swamps and bayou country. You control Bayou Billy, a rugged vigilante and survivalist who must rescue his girlfriend Annabelle Lane from the crime lord Godfather Gordon, who has kidnapped her to lure Billy into a final confrontation. Gameplay involves hand-to-hand combat in nine stages using basic punches, kicks, and jump kicks, with optional weapons like a throwing knife, club, or bullwhip dropped by enemies. Light gun support via the NES Zapper adds shooting sections. The story emphasizes survivalist themes, Cajun culture, and one-on-one boss battles against Gordon's henchmen. What makes it stand out is its blend of beat-'em-up action with shooting and driving elements, plus regional differences between the Japanese Famicom version (easier difficulty) and the North American NES localization.
