Castlevania II: Simon's Quest is an action-adventure RPG where you play as Simon Belmont, the vampire hunter from the first Castlevania game. Seven years after defeating Count Dracula, Simon suffers from a curse that causes his wounds to worsen and leads to nightmares. The story follows Simon's journey through a castle to rescue his lover Aphrodite, who has been kidnapped by the evil priest Galious (Galious/Gariu), while also saving their unborn child Pampas. Gameplay features a side-scrolling platformer style with melee combat using a whip, exploration of castle rooms and corridors filled with traps and items, and RPG elements like experience points for leveling up, health restoration, and weapon upgrades. The castle is a vast, labyrinthine environment with multiple stages, secret passages, and puzzle-like navigation.
