About the Game

The Rocketeer is a 2D side-scrolling platformer developed by Realtime Associates and Ironwind Software, published by Bandai for the NES. Players control stunt pilot Cliff Secord, who discovers a rocket pack in his biplane cockpit. He uses the pack to battle mobsters, gangsters, and Nazi spies in 1938 Los Angeles while seeking his girlfriend Betty. The gameplay combines platforming, punching, and shooting enemies in side-scrolling levels with platform traversal and combat. Key characters include the heroic pilot Cliff Secord (The Rocketeer), his girlfriend Betty, mechanic Peevy, and villain Neville Sinclair. What makes it stand out is its faithful adaptation of the 1938-set adventure with a jetpack that allows flight through levels, though limited by NES hardware constraints.
