Silva Saga

Silva Saga is a classic Japanese-style RPG on the NES/Famicom where you play as an unnamed hero in the fantasy world of Minelvaton. You begin by naming your character and meeting advisor Frol in Arkasas, who guides you through the world and prepares you for the trial to become the Warrior of the Gods. The story follows your quest to collect the Light Warrior's sealed armaments and undergo divine transformation to battle revived Ragon and his brother Zolde, sons of the Dark God Zuhl who threaten to unleash hordes of monsters on the planet. Gameplay features turn-based exploration of dungeons and towns, random encounters, and party-based battles with the core hero plus up to three additional party members; you equip weapons and armor while leveling up through experience points and using healing items or magic. What makes it stand out is its direct sequel to the Minelvaton trilogy, the unique idol and mercenary battle system that lets you swap in powerful but spell-less mercenaries or magic-focused idols, creating flexible party compositions for the adventurous story and challenging dungeon crawls.
