About the Game
Virtual Wars is a single-player platformer and shooter for the Game Boy based on the 1992 film The Lawnmower Man. Players control Dr. Lawrence Angelo or Carla Parkette in side-scrolling action sequences similar to Contra or Metal Slug, collecting weapon upgrades and data discs that transform into protective Virtual Suits. The game features four distinct level types: Virtual World (first-person dodging of obstacles like trees), Cyber War (shooting stops in a first-person view), Cyber Run (third-person shooting through obstacles), and Cyber Tube (fast-paced tunnel traversal with enemies). There are true 3D level connectors based on the movie's CG sequences. It stands out for blending platforming, shooting, and interactive movie-style elements in a virtual reality setting with memorable characters like the intelligent chimp Jobe and the villainous Shop agency.
