Juuouki

Juuouki is a side-scrolling action-adventure beat 'em up port of the classic Altered Beast. In this Ancient Greece-inspired tale, a Roman centurion is resurrected by Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena from the demonic underworld ruler Neff. Gameplay features simple punching, kicking, and jumping with power-ups that let the player transform into different werebeasts (wolf, dragon, bear, tiger, golden wolf) for special abilities and stage-specific attacks. Story focuses on battling hordes of undead minions and supernatural foes across levels. Characters include the player-controlled Centurion, Athena, and Neff. What makes it stand out is the innovative werebeast transformation mechanic and faithful porting of the arcade original to the NES hardware.
