Legend of the Goddess Heroes

封神英杰传 (Canon: The Legend of the New Gods) is an unlicensed turn-based strategy RPG for Sega Mega Drive, based on the classic novel Fengshen Yanyi. The player starts as Lin Yun, one of the eight heroes, and gradually reunites with the others to fight against the evil forces of the Shang dynasty, advancing the Wu Wang Fa Zhou campaign through battle and cutscenes. Gameplay involves top-down tactical battles where heroes move to attack enemies physically or cast magic within range, gaining EXP to level up mid-battle; navigation is possible via world map or instant travel. The game features over 30 hours of content with many playable characters from Chinese mythology and a rich story of gods, heroes, and betrayal. It stands out for its faithful adaptation of ancient Eastern mythology, deep character progression, and unique bug exploits beloved by retro fans.
