About the Game
Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is an action RPG where players control the red-haired adventurer Adol Christin. Returning to the top-down 'bump' combat style of Ys I and II, Adol attacks enemies by running into them from the sides for optimal damage while exploring the land of Celceta. The story involves Adol receiving a plea for help from Luta Gemma and traveling to Celceta, where he encounters characters like Karna, Leeza, and reunites with Lilia amid threats from ancient evils and the masked antagonist Eldeel. Key mechanics include experience-based leveling, sword-attached magic, and precise positioning in combat. It stands out for its connection to earlier Ys lore, atmospheric pixel art, and memorable boss fights despite some grinding and technical limitations as a rushed SNES title.
